South Memphis Revitalization Plan Aims to Bring New Life to a Historic Neighborhood

The South Memphis Revitalization Action Plan (SoMe RAP), a unique partnership between the University of Memphis and a network of community organizations led by the Rev. Kenneth S. Robinson, pastor of St. Andrew AME Church on South Parkway, will serve as a blueprint for building a more vibrant, sustainable, and just community in South Memphis, specifically the area west of Interstate 240, north of Persons Avenue, south of Trigg Avenue, and east of Lauderdale Street. press release

Memphis Mathematics and Science Teacher Induction Fellowship program

Alumni who hold a bachelor's degree (or the equivalent of 24 credit hours) in mathematics or science are eligible to apply for the Memphis Mathematics and Science Teacher Induction Fellowship (MMSTIF) program. Co-sponsored by the University of Memphis and Memphis City Schools, the program offers free tuition to complete a Master of Arts in Teaching degree. Once state teaching licensure is achieved, you will also receive a $10,000 annual salary supplement for your first four years of teaching in Memphis City Schools ($40,000 over 4 years).

The goal of the program is to develop high quality teacher leaders in mathematics and science who will work in Memphis City Schools. More information about program benefits, requirements, and the application process can be found at the grant website. The application and an unofficial copy of your university transcript are due no later than February 10, 2010.
