- Hubble Deep Field -
A fascinating image of some of the most distant objects in the Universe. The Hubble Space Telescope created this image by focusing on an apparently 'empty' region of space. The aperture remained open for 10 days so the camera could gather minute amounts of light from these extremely faint galaxies. Scientists are still attempting to calculate the number of galaxies in this image, but the current count has risen to nearly 2000 galaxies. There are hundreds of trillions of stars in this picture.
