The 87th entry in Messier's list. It is a giant elliptical galaxy in the constellation Virgo (the virgin). It is about 120 x 10³ or 120 thousand light-years across, and approximately 60 x 10⁶ (60 million) light-years away. There about 2.7 x 10¹² (2.7 trillion) stars in this galaxy.
