1. Should have a correct cover page with paper title, student name rather than number, class, and date.
2. Must be typed and double-spaced, using indented paragraphs (use Tab key) with no extra space between paragraphs.
3. Papers must have a Bibliography page and correct historical notation (See Writing Guidelines on class website.) Rule of thumb on sources is to have as many sources as there are pages in the paper--so for a three page paper, three sources.
4. Sources used must be handed in with the
paper.
If a source is long or a book, just xerox the pages used.
5. Quotes over four lines must be single
spaced and indented on both sides. No need to use quotation marks
with this type of quote, but it needs a footnote number at the end.
6. Keep a copy of your finished paper on a disk, so that you can easily fix writing or information errors on returned papers. Any student who turns in a paper with more than three errors will have to turn in both a clean copy and the original paper for the full grade. Any student with three errors or fewer will therefore save him or herself some extra work.
7. These papers will not be accepted after their due dates except in this case: if a student has completed two papers and wants to do another one for Extra Credit (3%), she or he can go back and do any topic on the list.
