The Green Machine Mobile Food Market

A joint effort of the Vance Avenue and the Graduate Program in City and Regional Planning, the Green Machine's mission is to improve access to healthy foods for residents of our citys many food deserts. This project aims to provide consumers with the best available information regarding the relationship between diet and health and to demonstrate the existence of a robust market for a full service grocery in older residential neighborhoods of the city.

The Green Machine is a mobile produce market that brings fresh fruits and vegetables to neighborhoods with limited access to fresh produce in Memphis, TN. It is one of the many food ministry programs of Saint Patrick Community Outreach, Incorporated, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing community-driven outreach programs for equitable food access to under-served populations.

The Green Machine Mobile Food Market launched on July 22, 2013 and makes stops throughout the city in designated "limited food access" neighborhoods, 5 days a week, Monday - Friday. Along with fresh local produce, the market offers information on community services, healthcare tips, special guest appearances, and the services of volunteers from diverse professional sectors to support a full-circle healthy community.
