Educational Assistance

The University of Memphis is pleased to offer educational assistance to eligible employees and their eligible dependents. A description of the programs, the application process, deadline dates and a link to the enrollment forms are available at bf.memphis.edu/hr/benefits/educ.php

Employees who plan to participate in the Staff Scholarship, PC 191 Fee Waiver, or the Spouse/Dependent Discount Program for Summer 2008 may find specific registration and fee payment deadlines at the Bursar’s website bf.memphis.edu/ebursar

Important: PC 191 registration date is May 5th. If you have registered before this date, you must drop the course and re-register on another day or you will be financially responsible for that course.

New: The PC 191 fee waiver provides payment of fees for one (1) course per term, including RODP online program fee. However, the student remains responsible for payment of all other course fees (i.e. Art, Business, Engineering, and Law School Library) by the appropriate fee payment deadline. Staff Scholarship will not include RODP program fees.

Please thoroughly complete your forms, do not leave any sections blank. If there are any changes (i.e. drop/add course) to your class schedule after payment has been processed, please remember to submit an email to benefits@memphis.edu.

If you have any questions please contact Jennifer McNeil at jmcneil1@memphis.edu

Important Message Regarding Phishing Emails

Phishing attempts are escalating. Phishing attempts are fraudulent emails requesting your personal information. These messages may appear to be sent from someone that you normally do business with. As more and more people are comfortable disclosing personal information online, phishing attempts are increasing. It's important to keep your personal information secure. Take the following steps to protect yourself from identity theft:

  • Never reply to an unsolicited email that asks for your personal information. The University of Memphis will never request personal information (i.e. your SSN, UUID and password, birth date, or any account numbers) via email. Other institutions (your bank, credit card company, or loan officers) would not email you requesting this type of information either.
  • Never click on any links within an unsolicited email. Links within a phishing email often lead to counterfeit internet sites. For example, a phishing email may contain the link "Click here to update your information" and then lead to a phony business website requesting personal information. Always visit an institution’s website directly, using their official URL.
  • Be careful about who you share your personal information with. Phishing attempts most often masquerade as reputable business institutions. Always exercise caution when you receive an email requesting personal details. If you are receiving a large amount of fraudulent email, contact abuse@memphis.edu for additional information.
Questions and Help Regarding Phishing

As always, if you have any questions, please contact the Help Desk at 678-8888 or ClientServices@memphis.edu

Professional Privilege Tax

In 2003 state legislation was passed permitting a governmental entity to remit the $400 Professional Privilege Tax on behalf of its eligible, full-time state employees. This means that The University of Memphis will remit the tax for faculty and staff who meet the following criteria:

  2. His/her license is related to the job they currently hold at the UofM.
  3. The license has been issued by the State of Tennessee and is current.

The deadline for remittance is June 1; therefore, we need a list of eligible employees no later than May 2.

If you believe you qualify for this payment, click on the link below and immediately send the completed form to your point of contact. Do not call in your information. http://bf.memphis.edu/hr/compensation/privilege.pdf

Depending on where you work, send the form to:

Refer to http://www.state.tn.us/revenue/tntaxes/proftax.htm for the listing of professional licenses subject to this tax. To be eligible, your license must be currently active.

These payments will be included on your W-2 as taxable income.

If you have questions, contact your representative above or Human Resources as follows:
